TECH TALK:
ViewCast Announces New WDM Drivers for High-End Video Capture Applications

SPECIAL NEWSLETTER ANNOUNCEMENT!
ViewCast to Feature Next Generation Video Network Solution at INFOCOMM 2004

ViewCast Corporation is pleased to invite you to the launch of its next generation technology at InfoComm, June 9-11, in Booth 3269. This totally new approach to an open-architecture video network solution enables the optimization of video delivery and management across the LAN, WAN, and Internet.

Businesses and organizations often face the challenge of controlling and coordinating the use of video assets. For example, Marketing may own company commercials, Training may control all Distance Learning applications, and IT may control videoconferencing. The net result of separate owners with departmental budgets is that video solutions are created to support a single function or set of functions that are limited to just that department. The creation of a niche solution for any organization often causes issues as the business is saddled with an investment that has limited or no ability to interoperate with other systems.

Overall, the solution for businesses and organizations looking to aggregate the value of video in the enterprise is Viewcast. This new Viewcast solution introduces enterprise customers, educational institutions, and governmental agencies to a platform that has the ability to aggregate the numerous deliver methods of video into a single platform.

This new ViewCast solution will transform local and global video networks into a dynamic interactive video communications platform. Simply stated, Viewcast captures video where you source it, and delivers it where you need it.

Come see ViewCast unveil the future in video distribution!
Booth 3269 at InfoComm in Atlanta, GA on June 9-11, 2004

ViewCast Delivers
Macromedia Flash Video Streaming!

Osprey Video cards capture
and encode video for Flash.

Osprey streaming cards can be now used to deliver real-time video to Macromedia® Flash™ Player, opening up a significant range of applications for ViewCast users! ViewCast streaming products seamlessly deliver quality video that can be displayed through Flash Player via the Macromedia Flash Communication Server MX or the Macromedia Flash Video Streaming Service.

Macromedia Flash Player supports live streaming video delivered from ViewCast Osprey video streaming cards. Macromedia Flash Communication Server MX includes the ability to stream live to the Flash Player for cross-platform streaming, and the ability to synchronize graphics and text with the video stream for superior presentation and display capabilities.

“ViewCast is a great addition to the Macromedia Alliance Partner Program,” said Chris Hock, director of product management, Macromedia. “Simply by plugging a digital video camera directly into a ViewCast Osprey card, live streaming will be available to approximately 500 million online users. This capability will simplify the whole process for content providers who want to work with video on the Internet and in other live video streaming applications.”

This new relationship with Macromedia enables ViewCast’s installed base of users to enjoy many expanded capabilities. One significant advantage is that no upgrades to the ViewCast cards and software are necessary, therefore Osprey users can rapidly develop new delivery applications using Flash and incorporate video captured by ViewCast.

Additionally, Flash developers now have the capability to add video streaming to thier Flash presentation using an Osprey card greatly enhancing the impact of thier online message.

ViewCast Announces New WDM Drivers for High-End Video Capture Applications!

ViewCast has developed and made available for free download, WDM drivers for the Osprey-100, Osprey-2XO family, Osprey 540 and Osprey-560. These drivers will typically benefit those using capture cards in high-end video capture applications that can take advantage of the advanced features supported in Microsoft’s DirectShow media environment.

With this release, ViewCast is also making available the 3.1.0 SDK, updated to reflect the added value of the 3.1.0 drivers.

So, how do you know which drivers to choose?

As a general rule, the ViewCast WDM driver should be selected and installed wherever possible. DirectShow has built in support for older software applications written for Video for Windows via special mechanisms within Windows that essentially emulate the older VfW function calls. In rare cases the "emulation" does not produce identical results and the application may not perform as expected. In these cases, users may wish to install the older Osprey VfW drivers to see if that corrects the problem. Most software applications written explicitly for Windows 2000 or Windows XP use the DirectShow models and should work correctly with the Osprey WDM drivers.

If you have questions about the ViewCast VfW and WDM drivers for your Osprey card, please contact [email protected].

You can also get assistance from other Osprey Video users by posting a message on the ViewCast Discussion Forum at http://forum.viewcast.com.
